01 Sep Centanni Lab awarded NIAAA R01 grant
The lab has received a five-year R01 grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The project asks why some people progress from casual drinking to alcohol use disorder while others do not. Using preclinical models, we will examine how stress and alcohol reshape the network linking the insular cortex to the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST), and test whether this pathway drives two hallmarks of alcohol use disorder, compulsive-like drinking and heightened negative emotion during abstinence.
